RAM Mounts For Panasonic Toughbook CF-H1

A range of flexible mounting solutions for Panasonic's Mobile Clinical Assistant

(RAM product page)

RAM-Mounts of Seattle, Washington -- undisputedly the leading innovator and manufacturer of rugged, durable mounting systems and docking stations for mobile electronics with their patented ball and socket mounting system that allows you to mount practically anything anywhere -- has introduced a whole line of mounting products for the Panasonic ToughBook CF-H1 Mobile Clinical Assistant.

First, what is the Panasonic ToughBook H1? It is a machine based on the Intel Mobile Clinical Assistant reference platform that came out of research Intel began in 2004 and collaboration with clinicians. Intel described a clipboard form factor, lightweight design, and an integrated handle for easy for use and carrying during a work shift. The idea was that, along with appropriate software, the MCA would enable clinicians to access patient care records at the point of care and document a patient's condition in real time. This, in turn, would reduce transcription errors, enhance workflow, and deliver faster and safer care.

Several leading computer manufacturers are now offering MCAs, and the Panasonic H1 is among the very best. It measures 10.4 x 10.6 inches and weighs just over three pounds. Equipped with a very bright, sunlight-viewable 10.4-inch display that has both a touch screen and an electromagnetic digitizer, the heavily ruggedized and Intel Atom-powered CF-H1 can be used in a wide variety of settings and clinical/medical applications.

This means is that this tough and compact device will be used in many different settings, and have a variety of different mounting requirements. While many of these machines will be used inside hospitals and clinics, others will be used in ambulances and other vehicles. To fill those needs, RAM Mounts has designed a whole system of mounting products for the H1, all available the end of June, 2009. Let's see what is available:

RAM's designers and engineers started by creating the RAM Powered Dock for the Panasonic Toughbook CF-H1 and then a number of different mounts described farther down. The powered dock addresses the H1's inherent shortage of onboard connectivity. That shortage, incidentally, is by design: machines made for healthcare environments must have flat, easy-to-clean surfaces and a minimum of holes and places where bacteria and germs can accumulate and multiply. So for situations where connectivity other than the H1's internal wireless, scanning and RFID is required, the RAM Powered Dock provides:

  • Power
  • Serial (DB9 connector)
  • VGA out
  • Audio out
  • RJ-45 LAN
  • 5 x USB
Having this additional connectivity available in a variety of settings can make a huge difference. USP ports, especially, are being used for everything these days, and having FIVE will certainly come in handy.

As far as mounting options go, RAM-Mounts offers three different options for the Panasonic Toughbook H1:

The RAM POD III No-Drill Vehicle Mount (product number RAM-316-3-PAN5PU) includes three legs, allowing to be flexed for precision mounting.

The RAM 1.5" square rail Clamp Mount comes in handy when you need to use the Toughbook H1 in other situations where a clamp attachment works best (product number RAM-247U-15-PAN5PU ).

If the computer is going to be mounted on a wall but requires viewing from various directions and angles, RAM single swing arm mount is a simple, elegant solution that provides maximum flexibility (Product number: RAM-109V-PAN5PU).

Tablet computers rely on docks, and no other dock for the Panasonic CF-H1 is easier to use than the RAM Powered Dock. It is very simple to insert or remove the device thanks to clever design and RAM's unique spring-loaded latch and roller system and the overall shape of the dock does not block any functions. A built-in keyless lock adds security and deters theft or inadvertent removal. No matter whether the MCA will be used in the ER, a doctor's office, or an ambulance, RAM has what you need to mount the Panasonic CF-H1 exactly where you want it. Keep it safe, secure, and ready with RAM. The RAM Mounts for the Panasonic Toughbook H1 will be available in late June 2009.
