"RUGGEDBOOK" is Samwell's brand name for their complete line of semi-rugged and fully rugged mobile computing products that include convertible notebooks, Tablet PCs and ultra-mobile PCs.

Rugged Convertible Notebooks

Samwell's RUGGEDBOOK SR858 is a convertible notebook that can be used both as a laptop and as a Tablet PC. The platform was designed for deployment in field service, telecommunications, military, transportation, mining, and similar applications where trust-inspiring ruggedness, an indoor/outdoor viewable display, excellent battery life and balanced overall performance matter. Designed to offer maximum versatility, expansion possibilities, and support for the latest wireless technologies, the SR858 is the rugged notebook of choice for today's outdoor professionals.

Rugged Tablet PCs

The Samwell RUGGEDBOOK SR800 is a rugged Tablet PC for applications that require mobility in the field without giving up the power and versatility of a full-function Intel Core-based Windows computer. With a large 10.4-inch display, dual-mode touch and digitizer input, excellent onboard connectivity, long battery life, GPS and 3.5G communication support, and inherent ruggedness, the SR800 is a perfect lightweight, ergonomic solution for the field. A magnesium-alloy housing, rubber bumpers, a wide operating temperature range, and the ability to withstand shock, vibration and exposure to dust and rain facilitate maximum reliability and endurance outdoors and on the job. The somewhat smaller RUGGEDBOOK SR820 offers Intel Atom-based netbook functionality and efficiency in a lightweight and very compact, yet fully rugged, tablet with a wide-format 8.9-inch WSVGA display. Available with a 1D laser, GPS, and camera, the SR820 is a serious data capture and field documentation tool.

Mobile Clinical Assistants (MCAs)

Clinical environments have special computing requirements. Devices must be light, quiet, rugged, reliable, easy to clean and disinfect, and capable of capturing data in a variety of ways. The Samwell RUGGEDBOOK MCA9 fills all those requirements in a package that is lighter and more compact than competing products.

Rugged tablets used by motorcycle riders in Taiwan
There are a lot of motor scooters in Taiwan. In fact, every second citizen has one. However, due to the nature of Taiwanese traffic laws, there are hardly any larger bikes. Well, the laws have changed now and big bikes are suddenly quite popular. Given Taiwan's expertise in mobile electronics, it's not surprising to see rugged mobile computers integrated into big bikes, where they serve as big-screen GPS, information centers, and for weather forecasts, traffic reports, and more. The image shows a Samwell RUGGEDBOOK SR820 tabled mounted on a Honda. The Intel Atom-powered, 2.9 pound SR820 with its magnesium alloy chassis and housing and a 8.9-inch WSVGA touch display (see our review) seems well suited for the task. RUGGEDBOOK and the environment
The 21st century will see both unprecedented technological advance and opportunities as well as human and environmental challenges that must be managed wisely.

Customer service, for example, is becoming an ever more important factor, and service industries are playing a major role in economic recovery and growth. Making available to workers the best possible and most useful technology is therefore crucial.

To that extent, our Samwell RUGGEDBOOK computers are increasing productivity in numerous applications around the world, ranging from warehousing, factories, utilities, transportation, law enforcement, public service, field service, hospitality and many more. RUGGEDBOOK tablets can be deployed as vehicle-mounts or as fixed-mount panels in industrial applications, and they are tough and rugged enough for the harshest environments.

On the human safety and productivity side, Samwell rugged computers are now used by the Swedish government for workplace surveys and other applications to ensure safe and healthy working environments, and reducing accidents. In Malaysia, a university wildlife and jungle research department uses the RUGGEDBOOK SR858 computer in their studies, enhancing knowledge that helps understanding and protecting our natural resources.

RUGGEDBOOK computing products can be used in numerous environments and applications, and these are just two examples that illustrate Samwell’s contribution to a bright and prosperous future both on personal and environmental levels.
